Baoguo Sun graduated with BA in History, MA in History, and PhD in  History from Northeast Normal University (NENU), Changchun, China.

From June 1994 to June 2016, He had worked my way up in the Press, Publication, Radio and Television system of Jilin Province of China through a series of management roles successively such as Documentary Director of Jilin TV Station International Department; Reporter and Producer of Jilin TV Station News Center; Director of Jilin North Media Research Center; Director of the Publicity and Management Department of Jilin Radio, Film and Television Bureau; Director of Publicity Department and TV Drama Department of Jilin Radio, Publication, Radio and Television Bureau. He was appointed as editor (middle professional title) in July 1997, chief editor (vice-senior professional tilte) in Janury 2001 and senior editor (senior professional tilte) in January 2006.

Since June 2016, He has been working in the higher education system of Shanghai, China. At present, he hold the academic tiltes and positions such as Doctoral Supervisor; Research Supervisor; Research Fellow of the Center for Urban Culture Research, Shanghai Normal University (SHNU), China; Professor of Film-Television and Communication College of SHNU; Academic Leader of Radio, Television and New Media Discipline of SHNU; Director of Radio, Television and Media Integration Development Research Center of SHNU; Master Teacher of “Northeast Normal University Scholar” of NENU. 

From September 2018 to September 2019, as a Visiting Scholar sponsored by China Scholarship Council (CSC), He has finished a one-year academic research at School of Histories, Languages and Cultures, University of Liverpool (UoL), UK.

As leader of projects, He has completed or is ongoing 17 projects, including the later-stage subsidized project of the National Social Science Foundation; the major project of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Science of Ministry of Education of China (MOE); the key project of social science research of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television; and the key project of the Jilin Social Science Foundation.

So far, He has published 10 academic monographs, such as European Literary Media Research before the 18th Century, General Commentary on the Formats of Chinese Television Programs, History of Chinese Rural Theme Teleplays, History of Chinese Local Films, etc., and has published more than 100 papers, including more than 40 CSSCIChinese Social Sciences Citation Indexpapers.

Up to now, more than 70 radio, film and television works produced by him have won various awards, including two first-prize of China News Award and one third-prize of China News Award.

In line with the philosophy of work-based learning and learning-based working, his research fields are constantly expanding with the changes of jobs: Radio, Film, Television and New Media; World  Communication History; Global Urban History; World Ancient and Medieval History.
